Lately this has been lacking, atleast on the servers that I have played on. This would bring competitiveness back to Age II atleast, and would promote attacking, and the use of troops, which this game is supposed to be about. I strongly advocate this change for, at the very least, historical cities in Age II. By taking away the ability to comfort to indefinitely keep a city, one reason to cheat is gone, as well as one of the benefits of cheating. With the only loss in this defense being any untended resources in the city, it really has no downside, other than the moral repercussions. The cheapest way to do this is through the current comfort system. One of the main benefits of cheating, 3rd party programs or account sharing, is that with their use, a city can never be lost. In many cases frustration causes players to take matters into their own hands to (illegally) force a defender off their account due to this possibility that despite breaking their city, there is no hope to actually capture the city itself (especially relevant in Age II where historical cities hold much value, and battles are fought solely over their ownership). The only hope to beating this is for an attacker to hope that the defenders power goes out or some other extremity happens that causes no one to be able to log in. That or use 3rd party programs, or have a friend who can take over to do the same. As it is, the only skill and effort a player who chooses to defend with a pure comforting strategy is to be able to stay up long hours, be able to wake up in between small intervals of sleep, and be able to make the few clicks to open a resource package from facebook (Age II), or move over resources from another city or from an ally, and to click comfort. It would make the game more competitive as it would give hope that any defense could truly be beaten, and that with enough effort, due to ingame skill and effort, any player would be able to succeed. I believe a longer cooldown would satisfy all of these goals. 1) make the game more fun, playable, and in the case of a war game, competitive, 2) to eliminate reasons to cheat, as well as 3) to minimize the benefits of cheating. The goal of any change that is made to an existing game should be to either. Cheating is, and will always be an issue, as it is with any game, and combating it while remaining fair to all paying customers is a delicate balance that is practically impossible to perfect. The one Wolfgang has proposed in my opinion would be very good in focusing on eliminating some of the issues that have been pointed in this thread due to the exploitation of comforting.
